Protestors demand justice after report on city’s handling of Prude death

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Activists were back out demanding justice after the release of a report into the City of Rochester’s handling of Daniel Prude’s death was released.

The protestors met on Jefferson Avenue on Tuesday night, not far from where the Prude incident happened in late March. They then marched to Rochester City Hall. Earlier in the day, the report had said nobody there did anything wrong following the death of Daniel Prude- a conclusion that some activists disagree with.

"The systems that are in place currently do not work and we know that they are designed to keep the powerful powerful and the oppressed oppressed," says Ashley Gantt of Free the People ROC. "I think when you have elected officials that look like me and you, we expect them to be help at a higher standard by the community that elected them, we didn’t get that, we’re not surprised, definitely disappointed and absolutely livid."

The report also revealed that former police chief La’Ron Singletary was suing the city. News10NBC has requested a copy of his notice of claim, but the city has not povided it and Singletary’s lawyer denied releasing it.
