The city council authorized the independent investigation on Monday.
They hired Andrew Celli, a native of Rochester, and now a lawyer in New York City. He says the investigation’s mission is to determine whether or nor Prude’s death was covered up.
"There’s really one here and that, was there a cover-up?" Celli said. "That’s a blunt way to put it. But that’s the question we’re seeking to answer."
Celli says they’re going to create a timeline, examine how government officials communicated with each other, what they knew and when they knew it, and investigate what public officials said publicly and what they actually knew at the time.
Celli says it’s possible they question Mayor Lovely Warren under oath.
