First Alert Weather In-Depth: Another shot at summer weather

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Summer does not arrive for another five weeks, at least officially on the other calendar. But I would imagine a lot of us would like to see this kind of summer weather soon.

It may be interesting to know that the temperature in the month of May, at least thus far, is really broken down to an almost equal amount of below-average days and above-average days.

When you see a timeline of temperature, the month started out very chilly, but we warmed up significantly as the month progressed. However, as we move forward in time, our forecast shows that the temperature will go up in a big way and will eventually rise into at least the upper 80s.

This is certainly going to be the case for Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday. It could turn out to be the warmest weather so far of the season. So, how close do we get to 90 degrees? If we look at the last time when we get to 90 degrees in Rochester you have to go back to July 5 of last year. When you look at the long-term average, the first time we reach 90 degrees is usually around June 15. And in a given summer season we average about 10 days of 90 degrees or higher.

I don’t know if we are going to get this warm, but there is no doubt we are going to need the air conditioning as we go through the week.
