Govenor Hochul speaks at Buffalo’s Day of Hope and Healing

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) – The Governor appeared in Buffalo on Saturday to speak at "The Day of Hope and Healing Event.” It was held in response to the mass shooting at a Tops supermarket in the city, where ten people were killed and another three were injured.

Mobile health centers were at the event to offer mental health resources, COVID testing, and vaccines. Free school supplies were also handed out to families in need ahead of the upcoming school year.

"They say home is where the heart is. Both my heart and my home are in Buffalo, so what happened on that day is seared in my heart forever, and what it did. Out of the depths of anger and pain, I went back to Albany and I said never again should an an18-year-old be able to get their hands on an AR 15 assault weapon that’s intended for the battlefield, never again."

The Governor went on to pledge the state’s support for people in need.
