WEEKEND GUIDE: Rochester Half Marathon, Naples Grape Festival, and concert for injured band member

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Fringe Festival ends on Saturday and there’s plenty of other events around the area this weekend. You can learn more about what’s happening around town on our Community Calendar.

Concert for Katy Eberts (Saturday)

Multiple bands will perform on Saturday at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center to benefit Katy Eberts, the member of The Seven Wonders who became paralyzed after a van crash.

Popular local bands including JUMBOshrimp, the Tommy Brunett Band, M80’s, BB Dang, Hall Pass, Junkyard Fieldtrip, and Appetite For Voltage will perform. The concert runs from 2 to 10 p.m. The concert will have a cash bar and food to buy. You can get tickets, which will benefit Eberts, here.

Eberts, a keyboardist and singer for the Fleetwood Mac tribute band The Seven Wonders, was injured while traveling to perform in Syracuse on July 20. The band’s van veered off the road on the State Thruway in Farmington and flipped several times. Eberts, a passenger, was trapped for several minutes.

Eberts will be discharged from the hospital on Friday after nine weeks, just in time for the concert, she wrote on her Facebook. A spinal injury left her paralyzed from the chest down and she has spent hours a day working with physical therapists, with her husband by her side. Eberts said she is remaining optimistic and has regained some muscle strength.

Naples Grape Festival (Saturday and Sunday)

The Naples Grape Festival returns on Saturday and Sunday, featuring tastings, a grape pie contest, and live music.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Naples High School and Main Street in Naples around the Memorial Town Hall. It will feature over 100 vendors of food and arts. All of the proceeds go to the Naples Rotary Club and Naples Historical Society.

A contest on Saturday afternoon will crown the world’s greatest grape pie. Judges will select winners based on taste, texture and appearance. In addition, the Brahm-Moore Craft Beverage Garden will feature tastings from wineries, craft breweries, and distilleries. Admission to the garden in $20 per person.

Rochester Half Marathon and 5K (Sunday)

The Rochester Half Marathon and 5K kick off on Sunday morning at Maplewood Park. Last year, more than 1,400 people participated in the race.

The half marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K starts ten minutes after that. Both end at Innovative Field. Runners can park at Innovative Field and take a bus to the start line, with bus services running from 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. Registration is open until Saturday afternoon. You can register here.

Runners can pick up their race packet at Fleet Feet at the Culver Road Armory on Friday from noon to 6 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At Fleet Feet, there will also be an expo featuring dozens of vendors offering the latest running footwear, apparel, and nutrition. Race day packet pickup, which is not advised, is at the main gates of Innovative Field by the finish line from 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.
