Gov. Hochul pays tribute to fallen RPD officer at conference for police chiefs

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Kathy paid tribute to fallen Rochester police officer Tony Mazurkiewicz on Tuesday at a conference for police chiefs statewide.

The annual conference for the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police is in Glens Falls this year. At the conference, Hochul pledged the state’s support for the men and women in uniform.

In her opening remarks, the governor paid tribute to Officer Mazurkiewicz.

“I want to acknowledge the collective pain that all of us feel as New Yorkers at the loss of one of our own,” she said. “I’ll be at the funeral very soon, I think on Monday. Anthony Mazurkiewicz, father, 29-year-veteran of the Rochester police force was just simply doing his job. And when you get that call, all of you have experienced this, that one of our own has gone down in the line of duty it’s a reminder of the fragility of life and the sacrifices that all of you are willing to make and your families are willing to make when you put on that uniform."

The governor went on to reaffirm her commitment to funding police agencies in the state.
