Monkeypox Vaccine Clinics coming to Monroe County

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – The Public Health Department expects to receive the first 600 doses of the monkeypox vaccine later this week. They are in the process of setting up vaccination clinics to give the vaccine as early as next Monday.

At this time, the following people will be eligible to schedule an appointment when they become available:

• You are a gay or bisexual male, a man who has sex with men, and/or transgender, gender non-conforming, or gender non-binary
• Age 18 or older
• Have had multiple or anonymous sex partners in the last 14 days

If you are eligible, the following people are strongly encouraged to consider the vaccine:

• Your partners are showing symptoms of monkeypox, such as a rash or sores
• You met recent partners through online applications or social media platforms (such as Grindr, Tinder or Scruff), or at clubs, raves, sex parties, saunas, or other large gatherings
• You have a condition that may increase your risk for severe disease if infected with Monkeypox virus, such as HIV or another condition that weakens your immune system, or you have a history of atopic dermatitis or eczema.

Vaccines are not recommended for people who have been diagnosed with monkeypox, and they are not eligible.

If the Department of Public Health has notified you that you were in close contact with someone who has monkeypox, you will automatically be provided with the opportunity to be vaccinated. You don’t need to schedule an appointment online.
