First Alert Weather: Good for Sunshine, But Bad for Needed Rain

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A large high-pressure system is has spread across all of the great lakes and a good portion of the northeast.

This has suppressed the excessive heat and humidity in the Ohio Valley and the southern states. This is a very slow-moving weather system, so the comfortable weather will likely continue for Rochester through the weekend. The one negative aspect of this weather is that any needed rainfall will not be arriving anytime soon.

Tonight look for clearing skies. It will be a pleasant night with the temperature falling into the 60s and eventually into the upper 50s. Bright sunshine will be the rule for Thursday and with lower humidity, it will be a very comfortable day. The high temperature is expected to be in the lower 80s, but likely staying in the 70s for lakeside communities. Friday will bring partial sunshine with just the slight chance of a passing sprinkle. The high temperature will be within a few degrees of 80. The weekend could not be any better for the Corn Hill Arts Festival. Both Saturday and Sunday will feature bright sunshine, very low humidity and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.

There is a negative side to all this nice weather. Rainfall is approaching two inches below normal since June 1st. As a result, the Rochester area is now classified as being in the abnormally dry category by the U.S. Drought Monitor. Unfortunately, the first chance for any significant rainfall is not until next Tuesday.
