ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Police are investigating after a shootout took place on Bidwell Terrace Saturday night.
Just after 7 p.m. Rochester Police officers responded to the 100 block of Bidwell Terrace for multiple ShotSpotter activations and subsequent resident calls for people shooting. When police arrived, they established a perimeter and closed the street until it could be ascertained that there was no further imminent threat. Officers did locate evidence of gunfire commensurate with the ShotSpotter activation.
According to police, two groups of individuals were shooting at each other on this densely populated street.
Rochester Police Department Captain Sam Lucyshyn said that "although no persons are reported to have been struck by gunfire at this time, multiple people, including infant children, were out on the street at the time of the incident."
This matter is being investigated as reckless endangerment in the first degree, which the New York State Penal Law defines in part as a “depraved indifference to human life."
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to please call 911.
