Volunteers distribute toys on Christmas after record-breaking Toys for Tots drive
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — With the News10NBC Toys for Tots Holiday Drive surpassing its goal of collecting 100,000 toys for local children, the work has begun to sort and distribute the toys.
This sixth annual drive set a record for a second year in a row, colleting just over 101,000 toys this year which surpassed last year’s total of 90,000 toys. News10NBC took a ride with a volunteer working to distribute the toys on Christmas Day.
Volunteer Alexis Hogel says her own experience as a Toys for Tots recipient was her motivation for making sure all kids had something to open on Christmas Day.
“Making sure the program stays running and we are able to assist other kids is absolutely amazing and takes a lot of work. People don’t see what goes on in the background to make sure the program keeps going,” Hogel said.
All the toys donated go to children in the Rochester region. You can still donate a toy online or request a toy on the website for Toys for Tots.
