Two people indicted in connection to July shooting outside Rec Center

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The grand jury has indicted two people with charges connected to the July quadruple shooting on North Clinton Avenue, which killed 24-year-old Willie Wofford.

The shooting happened overnight on the Fourth of July at an unsanctioned party of 200-300 people, at the outdoor basketball courts of the Trenton and Pamela Jackson Rec Center.

Joshua Williams, 28, was indicted for the second-degree murder of Wofford, who was the only shooting victim to die of his injuries. Williams was also indicted on weapons charges. He is being held without bail.

Quinjavis Lewis, a 30-year-old parolee, was indicted on weapons charges. He is accused of firing multiple shots into the crowd but is not accused of shooting anyone.

During the shooting, three of the victims were taken to hospitals in private cars. Wofford, the fourth victim, arrived in the hospital in an RPD car after officers responded to the shooting at around 2:45 a.m. He died at the hospital.

Police said an ambulance was unable to get to Wofford, since he was inside the hostile crowd at the party. Instead, an RPD car had to drive toward the crowd to find Wofford and several officers had to push the crowd back.

Williams was arrested in South Carolina, following an RPD investigation, and was extradited to Rochester so he could be charged with murder. Police said they found a loaded handgun on him during his arrest.
