PERINTON, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York State is spending big bucks to get kids outside and active.

The state is providing $1 million toward a skate park in Perinton, which is the result of a two-year effort by skateboarding advocates. Assemblymember Jen Lunsford was there to celebrate the news and talk about the benefits.

“Skate parks have become a more acceptable form of entertainment for our kids, and we’re seeing the value of providing a space for our kids to skate safely, not on our beautiful new decking, not on our parking garages, but in dedicated spaces where they can learn and grow,” she said.

Town officials hope to have the project complete by 2023. A stake park in the city opened in November of 2021, after 20 years of advocacy and planning.
