ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Republican lawmakers in our area are giving their ideas on how to stop gun violence in the community.
Today, representatives from Batavia to Greece addressed the rise in violence we’ve been seeing, and the broader public safety concerns, in the greater Rochester area.
They believe more resources for law enforcement, as well as increased access to mental health treatment facilities, are the way to go.
“There’s no magic wand or single issue that will stop the crime. But we need to do a number of public policy priorities to ensure that our streets and neighborhoods are safer and we stop the violent crime and stop the killing,” said Assemblymember Josh Jensen (R) Greece.
They also called issue to bail reform laws, mostly supported by their democratic colleagues, in releasing known offenders early from prison.
