First Alert Weather: Rain & some rumbles tonight

ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — The storm system that brought severe thunderstorms and some tornadoes to the central Plains and Ohio Valley moves into western New York tonight.

We won’t see severe weather, but we may get a rumble of thunder or two tonight into early Wednesday, along with some pockets of heavier rain. Most will see a quarter to half-inch of rain, but there will be some spots, especially north of the Thruway that pick up up to 1" of rain by midday Wednesday. Rain will pull away by midday/early afternoon Wednesday, but clouds will linger, and temperatures will hold in the 50s. Clouds will clear for Thursday, leaving us with a pretty nice day of some sun and temperatures back into the lower 60s.

We’re still watching the track of another wave of low-pressure Friday into Saturday. If the low tracks further north, we’ll see some light rain and showers to start Mother’s Day weekend. If the low tracks just a little further south, we’ll stay dry Friday into Saturday. For now, the best chance of some rain will be south of Rochester starting Friday evening and ending Saturday afternoon. The best chance of staying dry will be near and north of Rochester. This is a very finicky forecast, so we’ll keep you updated on any changes.

Mother’s Day and beyond: we’ll clear any clouds or showers out for Mother’s Day, leaving us with a great day to celebrate mom! And we’re not done there. A blocking pattern will likely be setting up next week. That usually means we’re "stuck" either in the clouds and damp weather, or days of sunshine. Lucky for us, it appears we’ll be stuck with sunshine and dry weather, along with much warmer air for the majority of next week.
