Rochester native Dyaisha Fair drafted by Las Vegas Aces, looks ahead to future

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Rochester native Dyaisha Fair has been selected 16^th overall (4^th in the second round) by the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA draft. Fair, a former Edison Tech standout, finished her fifth and final year for Syracuse Women’s Basketball eclipsing third on the all time D1 women’s basketball scoring list with 3,403 career points.

Now, Fair will take her talents to the West Coast to join the Aces, who are back-to-back WNBA Finals Champions. Still, getting to this point of stardom means a lot coming from her humble beginnings in Rochester.

“It played a big role knowing that we have a few athletes that have already came out of there and to be one of them means a lot,” said Fair.

Fair’s journey wasn’t as traditional as NBA players Thomas Bryant and Isaiah Stewart, who also made it to the pros out of Rochester. They were heavily recruited coming out of high school, but at just 5-5, Fair defied the odds as an undersized guard.

“No matter what anyone says or anyone may think, and specifically regarding my height, I’m here and watch me work,” said Fair. “Don’t allow anyone to dim your light no matter your size.”
