Bills draft Georgia RB James Cook in second round

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A national champion is joining the Buffalo Bills roster. The Bills traded back multiple times in round two to select James Cook with the 63rd overall pick.

Cook helped the Georgia Bulldogs win the 2021 national championship, starting at running back.

In 15 games Cook rushed for 728 yards and seven touchdowns. He also put up numbers in the backfield, hauling in 27 receptions for 284 yards and four more TDs through the air.

Running back was a position the Bills were rumored to be targeting in this year’s draft. Even with Devin Singletary breaking out for a few solid games during the Bills postseason run, he has far from locked down the role as top back in Buffalo. Cook will likely compete for that job, and will ultimately give Josh Allen a pass-catching back.

Cook brings a winning mentality and also a bit of some good football blood to Orchard Park. His brother, Dalvin Cook, is one of the top backs in the NFL, playing for the Minnesota Vikings.
