Guide to Memorial Day events across the Rochester area and what’s closed
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Memorial Day is coming up on Monday, May 27. Towns across the area and the City of Rochester will hold parades and ceremonies to honor military members who died while serving their country.

City of Rochester
The city’s Memorial Day Parade will start at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of East and Alexander, head down East Avenue, and end at the corner of Main and Fitzhugh. The parade route will be closed to traffic at 10 a.m. and will reopen after the parade is complete around 1 p.m.
Pittsford
Pittsford’s parade will start at 10 a.m. at the corner of West Jefferson Road and Sutherland Street. The parade will end at the Pittsford Cemetery, followed by a ceremony.

Brighton
Brighton will hold a ceremony at the Brighton Veterans Memorial at Buckland Park on 1341 Westfall Road. It starts at 2 p.m.
Penfield
Penfield will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the amphitheater in Veterans Memorial Park at 3100 Atlantic Avenue.
The ceremony will include retired Navy captain Tim Hardy as a guest speaker, essays by middle school students, and reflective music. There will also be a Penfield tradition, the Presentation of Roses to honor fallen military members.
Fairport
Fairport will hold a parade that starts at 10 a.m. at the Fairport Baptist Home. The parade will march down Main Street through the village, will turn onto West Church Street, and will eventually end at Potter Park.
After the parade, VFW Post 8495 will lead a remembrance ceremony, which will feature the Fairport High School Band, a performance of the national anthem, and several guest speakers. People will also read the names of Perinton-area veterans who died in the past year.
Gates
Gates will hold a ceremony at the front lawn of its town hall on 1605 Buffalo Road. The ceremony will run from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Greece
Greece’s parade will start at 11 a.m. and go down Long Pond Road from Janes Road to the Greece Town Hall Campus.
Then, at 11:45 a.m., there will be a remembrance ceremony at the Greece Town Hall Pavilion. Parking will be available at the town hall.
Chili
The Chili American Legion will hold a ceremony at the Chili Community Center on Chili Avenue. The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m.
Victor
Victor will hold a parade that will start at the Victor Central School District at 10:30 a.m. From there, it will move down Main Street and end at the Village Hall Parking Lot. Then, there will be a ceremony to honor veterans.
Irondequoit
Irondequoit will host a memorial service at 9 a.m. to honor fallen veterans. It’s at the Irondequoit Cemetery.
Highland Park
There will be a Memorial Day ceremony starting at 1 p.m. in Highland Park at the Greater Rochester Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It’s organized by the Vietnam Veterans America Chapter 20.
What’s closed?
Memorial Day is a federal holiday so town and city offices will be closed on Monday. In addition, Monroe County office buildings will be closed, including the Department of Human Services and all local Department of Motor Vehicles branches.
Rochester City Hall will be closed in addition to Neighborhood Service Centers, R-Centers, Rochester Animal Services, Rochester Public Library branches, and the Center for Human Services administrative office building. Refuse and recycling collection won’t take place on Monday in the city and pickups will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
Rochester Animal Services, 184 Verona St., will close and reopen on Tuesday, May 28.
The 311 Call Center will remain open with normal hours of 7 a.m. – 9 p.m., Monday–Friday.
There will also be some streets closed in downtown Rochester from 8:30 to 11 a.m. for staging for the city’s parade. Here are the list of streets.
