Two brothers accused of dragging multiple officers from their ATV, injuring them
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two brothers are accused of dragging multiple officers on their ATV along East Main Street on Sunday evening. In total, four officers were injured.
Alexander Lugo-Torres, 26, and Alexis Lugo-Torres, 27, are both charged with four counts of assault against a police officer in addition to resisting arrest. Alexander Lugo-Torres is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and Alexis Lugo-Torres is changed with reckless endangerment.
It all happened around 5 p.m. as officers were responding to a group of ATVs and dirt bikes driving recklessly near the Casa Campo Restaurant on East Main Street near Arch Street.
Rochester Police say Alexander Lugo-Torres drove ATV into a police sergeant, dragging him and injuring him. Officers arrested the 26-year-old and say they found a handgun, loaded with 14 rounds, on his waistband.
According to RPD, as his brother was being arrested, Alexis Lugo-Torres tried to drive away on the same ATV and ended up dragging several officers. RPD also say he hit several other vehicles in the parking lot before officers managed to take him off the ATV and arrest him.
While arresting the 27-year-old, another off-road vehicle hit an officer before driving away. The brothers were taken to the Monroe County Jail.
All four officers were treated at the hospital and two have potentially long-term recoveries from their injuries. RPD says 50 officers responded along East Main Street and they impounded a total of nine dirt bikes or ATVs.
News10NBC spoke with the owner of the Casa Campo Restaurant, who did not want to go on camera. He says that ATVs have been a problem at his restaurant. Police have not confirmed whether the restaurant owner or anyone in the area made a 911 call.
Knocking on doors on Sunday, many of the neighbors say that the roar of ATV engines up and down East Main Street has gotten out of control recently. However, they did not want to speak on-record out of fear of retaliation.
