Gov. Hochul addresses domestic violence on ‘Legislative Day of Action’

ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) – Governor Kathy Hochul delivered remarks Tuesday at a virtual gathering of the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

The Governor talked about the $90 million in the state budget going towards domestic violence programs and how reports to the domestic violence hotline have increased by 34 percent since March of 2020—the start of the pandemic. This was for the coalition’s "Legislative Day of Action."

"I hope someday in the future that people will realize that, well, every life is special. Every life, every person deserves a dignity to be able to live in an environment that is nurturing, loving, and that this violence will soon be a thing of the past. Until then we need your voice, we need your advocacy, we need your love," said Gov. Hochul.

The Governor also expressed full support for the Office of Victim Services, which $14 million has been allocated towards in the budget.
