ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Whipping winds and rain wreaked havoc in some areas across Monroe County. News10NBC was out all night chasing the storm.

This all unfolded around dinner time, so the people we saw checking out the damage said they were in the middle of their meals when loud crashes and cracks of thunder started..

"Looked out the window and saw the trees were all blowing around and I saw some shingles fly off of a neighbors roof,” Janice Hanson told us, who lives near Canterbury Road.

Wild wind, and heavy rain took down power lines and trees in some areas across the county. On Harvard Street and Canterbury road, multiple trees were down. The Rochester Fire Department had brooms, and other equipment to try and quickly clear the road, and neighbors noticed.

"Lucky our power didn’t go out and the county did a great job of coming and getting the branches and making sure the roads were clear,” Hanson added.

"Sticks were hitting against the house, I noticed my grill tipped over,” Robert Hurlbut told us.

Nearby on East Avenue, a car smashed into a tree that fell in the middle of the road. The tree trunk was fairly large. The wind was so strong that it snapped right in half. First responders say the driver was not hurt.

Everyone we spoke too said it was wild how much damage happened in such a short time.

"Not this quickly, it was quick, like 10 or 20 minutes,” Hurlbut said.

"Oh yes, It was a pretty quick on and pretty quick off,” David Kaufman told us.
