First Alert Weather: Turning warmer and stormy at times this weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We’ve finally settled our weather pattern, with dry weather to end the work week, but we’re going to change that again this weekend, with some storms returning.

The weekend starts off dry with a mostly sunny sky Saturday morning. It’ll also be turning hot, with highs up near 90 away from Lake Ontario. A lake breeze will help to keep lakeshore communities a little more comfortable in the 80s. Clouds will start to build in during the afternoon as more moisture works in from the south. This is ahead of our next upper-level storm system that will bring some much-needed rainfall to the Rochester area, but also bring a better chance for storms on Sunday.

A few showers, perhaps a thunderstorm will fire Saturday afternoon/evening, but Saturday will be the drier weekend day. There’s a chance we may start Sunday with one round of rain or thunder, then a better chance for scattered storms and much more unsettled weather on Sunday afternoon and evening. There’s a small chance of a stronger storm, but for now, we’ll remain green on the First Alert Threat Tracker, but we’ll monitor the trend into the weekend.

That same storm system will once again basically sit and spin overhead on Monday and Tuesday, keeping rounds of rain and storms around, focused mostly during the afternoons both days. This is actually great news, as the Rochester area and lakeshore communities badly needed a soaking rainfall, and we’ll make up some of our rainfall deficit next week. We start to trend drier by Wednesday, and there are some signs of more heat returning by next weekend.
