Gas prices in Rochester rise but not as much as Syracuse and NYC

ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester’s average weekly gas prices have risen by 1.7 cents, after falling for the past three weeks.

Gas prices this week averaged $4.26 per gallon, based on a survey of 319 stations in Rochester that GasBuddy released on Monday. That average is $0.12 lower compared to a month ago but still $1.39 higher compared to April of 2021.

Other cities in New York State saw an even larger hike in gas prices, with New York City increasing by 5 cents and Syracuse increasing by 2.4 cents. Meanwhile, Buffalo saw a sharp decrease in prices, averaging 5.6 cents lower than last week.

The cheapest gas price in Rochester on Sunday was $3.94 per gallon, while the most expensive was $0.65 higher.

The national average for prices at the pump rose for the first time in more than a month, said Gasbuddy analyst Patrick De Haan, because of an increase in crude oil price. With the end of the French election, the European Union could impose harsher sanctions on Russian oil, which could translate into gas higher prices in the U.S.

Rochester’s gas prices are higher than the U.S. average, which is $2.87 g per gallon.
