Rope rescue: Firefighters save dog from Erie Canal embankment in Gates

GATES, N.Y. — It was a happy ending for one lucky dog in Gates on Friday.

A group of Gates firemen rescued the pooch after it fell down an embankment at the Erie Canal near Midway Drive. They used a rope to send a firefighter down into the canal to rescue the dog.

After about 20 minutes, they were able to grab it and reunite it with its owner, safe and sound.
