Bills Cut Punter Matt Haack; Matt Araiza Wins Job

ORCHARD PARK, NY (WHEC) – If you were memorized by the 82-yard punt that came from the foot of Matt Araiza, you’re going to have more chances to see that this season. The “punt god” has won the job.
The Bills let go of punter Matt Haack, leaving Araiza to be team’s punter this season.
Haack punted on the team’s only attempt in Buffalo’s 2nd preseason game against the Colts but head coach Sean McDermott mentioned that that was the plan heading in. However, McDermott felt it was time to narrow things down to one punter, which led to moving forward with Araiza.
“He’s off to a good start,” McDermott said of Araiza. “It doesn’t mean he’s where he he needs to be. He’s not arrived. And in speaking with Matt this morning, you know, he echoed those sentiments in terms of he’s earned nothing. He’s got to continue to work. And and I think that’s the right mindset.”
“Just getting more comfortable with the operations as a whole,” Araiza said of when asked what he’s looking to improve on. “Especially like today, I got more reps than I usually would because I’m not splitting reps anymore. So that was good. But it’s a little bit of everything, to be honest. Just getting better as a whole.”
The Bills wrap up the preseason on Friday evening at 7pm at the Carolina Panthers.
