ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Attorneys at the Monroe County Public Defender’s Office announced their plan to form a union.
The attorneys said the office has been in turmoil about the selection of the new lead public defender. Attorneys said they are organizing to defend indigent services throughout Monroe County and don’t want their office to be used as a “pawn” in local political conflicts.
Democratic state lawmakers Samra Brouk, Jeremy Cooney and Harry Bronson have voiced their support for the union. We’ve reached out to the county for a reaction. We will let you know when we hear back.
Monroe County doesn’t have a new lead public defender yet but they are a step closer.
On July 27, the Monroe County Legislature President announced Buffalo attorney Robert Fogg as her choice. To become the public defender, he must first be voted in by the County Legislature.
