Roberts Wesleyan pole vaulter finishes 22nd in qualification round of Olympics
PARIS — Roberts Wesleyan pole vaulter Brynn King finished 22nd in the qualification round at the Olympic games on Monday morning, falling short of what she needed to qualify for the finals.
King won’t be among the 20 athletes who are headed to the finals, which will be on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Her best jump was 4.40 meters. You can see the compete results for pole vault here and stream the Olympics live on Peacock.
King, a fifth year senior, is one of three women’s pole vault athletes representing Team USA. The 23-year-old Texas native is coached at Roberts Wesleyan by 2012 gold medalist pole vaulter Jenn Suhr. News10NBC spoke with King after she qualified for the Olympics and at her send-off celebration.
The pole vault competition in Paris began at 4:40 a.m. The highest mark was 4.55 meters, which 11 athletes hit, including American Katie Moon. This was King’s first Olympic appearance. She is the reigning NCAA Division II Women’s Pole Vault National Champion.
