ROCHESTER, N.Y. On this week’s episode of Rochester in Focus, News10NBC’s Emily Putnam is joined by Victor Saunders, a special adviser to Mayor Malik Evans.
So far this year, Rochester is seeing murders at about the same rate as last year. 2021 was the deadliest year on record for the city, with a total of 81 homicides.
But Saunders, who oversees violence prevention initiatives in Rochester, says he is happy with the progress his office has made in the last 7.5 months since Evans took office.
A lot of ground is covered in this conversation, including the Rochester Peace Collective and how it will support anti-violence non-profit organizations, the expanded relationship between the Rochester City School District and the Pathways to Peace Program, and gang violence.
