First Alert Weather: Winter Not Finished Just Yet

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Weather systems are moving quickly across the country and, as a result, weather conditions are changing quickly. We have dry weather to finish the Easter Weekend, but it will not last. A combination of two low-pressure systems will be rolling into the Northeast. One is located in the Great Lakes and the other moving up the East coast. These two systems will combine to produce some mixed precipitation to start the upcoming week.

Tonight look for mainly clear, moonlit skies. The temperature will fall into the 30s and eventually into the upper 20s for communities that are located away from Lake Ontario and the city. Monday will start with partial sunshine for the morning, but clouds will quickly increase with rain developing by early afternoon. Winds will increase from the east with the high temperature in the low 50s. However, the rain may mix with wet snow in the higher elevations south of Rochester where the temperature will never rise above the middle 40s. Monday night the temperature should be just cold enough for any mixed precipitation to change to all snow. Again, this will be a wet snowfall and for most of us, just a small accumulation is possible on the grassy surfaces. However, the higher elevations will be slightly colder, thus producing the greatest chance of accumulation. Look for the Bristol Hills and point East into the Finger Lakes to see 1 to 3 inches of a slushy snowfall by Tuesday morning. The low temperature will be in the lower 30s.

Tuesday will not be very spring-like for Western New York. Expect a gusty wind with a significant chill as temperature readings will be more reminiscent of the middle of March. The temperature will remain in the middle 40s and winds gusting to 30 to 35 miles per hour. Look for occasional rain and wet snow showers for most of the day.

Finally, the weather will improve by the middle of the week. Wednesday will feature mostly sunny skies and a temperature climbing back to the lower 50s. Thursday will bring just a few spotty rain showers and it will turn even warmer with the mercury rising into the middle 60s. The News 10NBC First Alert meteorologists expect that the spring weather will last through the upcoming weekend.
