First Alert Weather: Flakes and Sun for Easter Sunday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We’re turning the calendar back a month or two today, with some lake snow showers fall at times, especially through the morning hours. Expect little more than a dusting in most spots, and sunshine will return by the afternoon, but we won’t be able to shake the chill. Temperatures in the 30s to start will climb into the lower half of the 40s, but feel chillier, thanks to a brisk northwesterly wind. It is certainly a cold Easter, but we’ve had colder, and snowier!

Believe it or not, we’re not done with the snow chances after today. A coastal low will combine with a disturbance cutting across the Great Lakes to produce a late season accumulating wet snow for parts of New England and the Northeast, but we will largely be spared the accumulating snow. Rain and wet snow will develop Monday evening, with a minor coating of snow, mainly south of Rochester. The Finger Lakes region may see an inch or two by Tuesday morning, but parts of down state and eastern NYS could see at least several inches of heavy wet snow. We’ll be left with a brisk wind and scattered rain and wet snow showers on Tuesday, before big improvements starting on Wednesday.

Warmer air will begin to move in starting Wednesday, with highs back in the 50s, and trying to nose into the 60s by the end of the week. It’ll be a battle between the cooler air and warmer air next weekend, but 70s should eventually win out by next Sunday and Monday. So, you’ll have to be patient, and deal with a little snow, but warmer air is on the way!
