Little League game shut down over nearby shooting in Lyons; Suspect charged

The day's major News events, business reports, sports updates, Rochester area weather information and tomorrow's forecast are presented by the News10NBC Team.

LYONS, N.Y. — A Lyons man has been charged with shooting and killing another man, who was found dead in a Maple Street apartment building.

Wayne County sheriff’s deputies say 37-year-old Randolph Scott shot and killed 40-year-old Shawn Rahn on Saturday morning. Scott has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The shooting scared many people in the area, including families watching their kids play baseball less than a mile away. A parent, who was at her child’s Little League baseball game near the site of the shooting, spoke to News10NBC about that game being shut down.

Meredith Graf says she didn’t expect her son’s first game of the season to end like it did.

“We were about the third inning in when the director of the program told the coaches inside to get all the players into the dugout. There was a police situation,” Graf said. “Then, I don’t even think it was a whole maybe minute, minute and a half later. The director then said, ‘We need to get the kids out of here.’ And we were evacuated from the field immediately.”

She said that, at that moment, all they knew is that there was a shooter nearby. Without any context, everyone was scared.

“It was terrifying to not know what was going on,” Graf said. “We were all kind of rushing them to hurry up, get your bags packed, you know, let’s get out of the dugout, get to our cars and get out of the area.”

Once she got home she says it was a lot of checking the news and talking to other people in the area to find out exactly what happened. She says once she found out it was an isolated incident her fear subsided a bit, but it still was a terrifying situation in the moment and one that will be hard to forget.

New York State Police, Wayne County EMS, and Clyde Police all responded. The suspect, Scott, was arraigned on Sunday morning at the Wayne County Jail. Police are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
