First Alert Forecast: Gusty winds blow some snow showers into WNY this weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y (WHEC) — The strongest winds from Friday only lasted about 30-60 minutes, but they packed a punch as they came through.

Some locations clocked wind gusts of 50-60 mph briefly. The strongest winds are long gone, and now we’re waiting on the cooler air. Rain showers will become a steady light rain tonight. Cooler air oozing in from the north will allow some of that moisture to mix with and change to wet snow.

We shouldn’t see any accumulation on roads, with nothing more than a light coating of slop on flowers and grass by Saturday morning. The wettest part of Saturday will be in the morning, with a drying trend by afternoon, though some passing rain showers are still likely. We may see some breaks of sun back in the mix by later in the day. Sunday will see a few lake snow showers or graupel showers, but no accumulation. We’ll also see a little more sun. So, overall, Sunday will be drier, but chillier with a brisk wind.

Monday starts off nice with some sun, but we’ll see another round of showers developing by later in the day. Once again, colder air wrapping into this next system will allow at least some of that rain to mix with some wet snow, mainly in the higher terrain south of Rochester by Tuesday morning. Tuesday will have a chill to it once again, with highs in the lower half of the 40s.

We’re looking up from there, though! We should see mainly dry weather and warming temperatures from Wednesday into the weekend. Wednesday’s high should reach into the 50s, with 60s by Saturday, and possibly into the 70s by next Sunday. So, hang in there if you’re looking forward to warmer times!
