First Alert Forecast: Gusty winds return Friday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The winds of change are blowing! Temperatures reached into the 70s ahead of a cold front early Thursday. But gusty winds dropped us quickly into the 50s.

The busy winds will drop off tonight, and so will the temperatures, falling into the upper 30s to near 40 by morning. Some sun Friday will aid in mixing down another round of gusty winds on Friday. Winds will gust 35-45 mph for a few hours late morning into the early afternoon, with a few gusts near 50 mph possible. This will blow around recycling bins and perhaps topple your empty garbage toter. It may lead to a few isolated outages but scattered and widespread issues aren’t expected, so we’re still green on the First Alert Threat Tracker. Temperatures on Friday should reach into the upper 50s, with an increasing chance for some showers after lunchtime, and a steadier light rain by late evening. Some of this light rain may transition over to wet snow showers Friday night into early Saturday morning.

This weekend will have a hint of winter to it, with wet snow showers mixing with rain showers on Saturday and chillier air for Easter Sunday. Sunday will be the drier weekend day, with a few light lake snow showers or graupel showers.

We’re watching the potential for another round of rain and wet snow late Monday into Tuesday next week, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to get any snow to accumulate this late in the season. Still, a sloppy coating of white is possible Monday night into Tuesday morning. Not a fan of the chillier air? We’re tracking a warming trend toward the end of next week.
