Suspect in 1992 cold case in court in Rochester Wednesday morning

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — After 32 years, a daughter finally got to see the man accused of killing her mother face-to-face in court.

Victoria Jobson’s body was found naked in a frozen field off Lyell Avenue in Rochester in December 1992. On Wednesday, one of her suspected killers was in handcuffs in court.

“It’s been a long emotional journey for me and my family,” said Keisha Washington, Jobson’s daughter who was 12 when her mother was killed. “And most importantly to me, obviously, my mom. She didn’t get to meet her grandson.”

For about 10 years, Washington and her cousin Nicole Bartell ran a coat drive on Lyell Avenue in honor of Jobson. They never gave up on her.

“So, be your victim’s voice,” Bartell said.

Arthur Jason Junior pleaded not guilty to murder in court on Wednesday. RPD homicide got new evidence this year.

“It was just obtaining statements from people, reaching out, knocking on doors and talking to people and finding out what they knew,” said Sgt. David Joseph of RPD Major Crimes.

“This is a case where we got people in the community to come forward and tell us everything they knew. And that’s why we’re here today,” said Capt. Frank Umbrino of RPD.

Mark Mariano, the first officer to find Jobson’s body in 1992, was in court to see the charge. A decade after the murder, he was in homicide leading the cold case investigation.

A second man wanted for this murder was arrested Wednesday morning in Hamilton, Ontario, about two and a half hours from Rochester. Police had to arrest him before Jobson’s court date because they were worried he would disappear if Jobson’s name got out. As soon as they get him over the border, he’ll be charged with murder.

In September, RPD solved another cold case — the 20-year-old arson murder of 8-year-old Savannah Streber. The suspect in that case is also in court on Wednesday.
