Firefighters evaluated after knocking down smoky Buffalo Road fire

OGDEN, N.Y. (WHEC) — "A few" firefighters had to be evaluated after crews from several fire departments knocked down a barn fire at 3900 Buffalo Rd. in Ogden Tuesday afternoon that generated plumes of smoke that were visible for miles.

The Spencerport Fire Chief said investigators believe the fire started at a utility company in the back of the building at around 3 p.m.

Buffalo Road was closed between Manitou Road and Stony Point Road while crews worked to extinguish the massive, two-alarm fire.

Fire officials said while there were no civilians hurt, a few firefighters were evaluated due to the heat.

When asked if the building was a total loss, Spencerport Fire District Chief Tom Clark replied simply, "Yeah, she gone."

The fire was declared under control just after 5:15 p.m.

Our First Alert Live Weather Camera at St. Ann’s at 1500 Portland Ave. more than 10 miles away in Rochester was able to pick up the smoke.
