Do The Right Thing: Esaias Ortiz honors late brother by donating books to children’s hospital

EAST IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — We’re recognizing Esaias Ortiz, a sixth grader from East Irondequoit who is inspiring others after the loss of his brother.

Eight years ago, the Ortiz family lost their son Gian when he was just 2 years old. Esaias and his parents now collect books to donate to Golisano Children’s Hospital, where Gian received care.

Esaias tells us what it means to him to help other kids.

“Really heartwarming… makes me feel excited,” Esaias said. “It’s important to do the right thing… you can really put yourself into that.”

The Ortiz family has donated more than 1,500 books.
