First Alert Forecast: Summer-like warmth & some thunder possible tomorrow

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — High pressure that brought us a beautiful blue sky and mild air on Tuesday will slide east tonight, allowing our next system to approach.

Clouds thicken overnight, and we’ll see a few showers, possibly a rumble of thunder by early Wednesday morning as a warm front lifts through. We’ll feel the full impact of that warm front, with highs well into the 70s during the afternoon, with a few towns flirting with 80 degrees. The last time the Rochester airport hit 80 was 7 months ago – back in September! This summer-like warmth may also lead to an isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorm. There’s a slight chance one of these could produce gusty winds.

This threat is low, so we remain green on the First Alert Threat Tracker. If ingredients come together better for a higher risk of severe storms, we’ll update the Threat Tracker. We’ll see another chance for showers and a few rumbles of thunder Thursday morning with the passage of a cold front, with the best chance for a gusty storm east of Rochester during the afternoon. High pressure building back in for Friday will bring us another dry day with some sun and a cooler breeze.

Easter weekend will be cooler, with a few passing showers on Saturday, and the chance for a few wet snowflakes on Easter Sunday. Temperatures on both days will hold in the 40s. It may actually look and feel a bit more like winter early next week, with some rain mixed with wet snow showers later Monday into Tuesday, and more of a chill with some passing snow showers Wednesday.
