ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — A man is dead and another is injured but expected to survive after a double shooting on North Goodman Street Sunday night

It happened outside the Family Dollar in Goodman Plaza at around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Police say they found 23-year-old Dallas Cooper Jr. at the scene who was shot at least once. He was taken to URMC by AMR where he died a short time later. A 31-year-old victim was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle.

Police say both men were shot in the same Goodman Plaza incident and that the Family Dollar was open when the shooting happened. At least one gunshot went through the front door, but police say thankfully, none of the numerous employees and customers, two of whom were small children, were hurt.

Witnesses told us what they heard and saw.

"Alright, so when I get on my steps, all I hear is ‘Boom, boom, boom, boom.’ So I ran in the house and dropped down," said Jakeim Donald, a Rochester resident. "Rochester is a disappointment, you feel me? Us kids nowadays we gotta walk around with guns. We’re afraid of dying. You feel me? I’m only 17. I’ve been shot twice, you feel me? I’m afraid of dying."

Police are still investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call 911, the Major Crimes Unit at 585-428-7157, or CrimeStoppers at 585-423-9300, or email MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov.
