Deputy stable after crash in Ontario County Monday night, still in ICU
HOPEWELL, N.Y. — A sheriff’s deputy is hospitalized, but in stable condition, after her patrol car collided with an SUV in Ontario County on Monday night.
The deputy, 30-year-old Molly Turnbull, has serious internal injuries but is in stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery. The other driver is also hospitalized in stable condition with a leg injury.
The crash happened on Routes 5 and 20 in the Town of Hopewell between Freshour and Mumby roads. According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, it all started when a state trooper was trying to make an arrest in Canandaigua, the person was resisting, and the trooper called for backup.
When the deputy was en route in emergency mode, the patrol car collided with the SUV heading in the opposite direction on Route 5. First responders freed the deputy from the car and an ambulance took the deputy to Strong Hospital.
As of Tuesday afternoon, this crash is still under investigation.
