ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monroe County Executive Adam Bello said it’s too soon to decide whether the county would waive taxes on gas.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday that as part of the state budget agreement, state taxes on gasoline would be waived from June through December of 2022. She then called on counties to do the same.

In a statement released Friday, Bello said "Monroe County sales tax distribution is more complex than most counties. The county receives about a third of the sales tax revenue collected countywide. The City of Rochester, towns, villages and school districts share the remaining amount."

Bello indicated the county will communicate with those entities and the county legislature while waiting for more details from the state, before updating the public on the county’s plans.
