In-Depth: School bus safety
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In New York State 2.3 million students are transported by more than 50 thousand school buses every year. That’s according to the governor’s traffic safety committee.
State law protects students who are getting on or off a school bus. It’s illegal for drivers to pass a school bus while the bus is stopped and the red lights on the school bus are flashing. If you’re convicted of violating the law, you could pay a fine or face jail time. Five points will also be added to your driving record for each conviction.
