Fairport native speaks ahead of singing national anthem at Bills playoff game
BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Fairport native is preparing to sing the national anthem ahead of a highly anticipated playoff matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens.
This is the second time that Lucas West, a junior at SUNY Fredonia School of Music, will sing the national anthem before a Bills game. He spoke with News10NBC about how he’s getting ready to sing in front of tens of thousands of fans at Highmark Stadium.
“Leading up to the performance, it’s very nerve-wracking. But when you’re there in the moment, it sort of just feels like you’re singing for your family. Bills Mafia is very much my favorite fan base in the NFL and I think when you’re singing in front of 70,000 of them it feels like just one,” he said.
We also spoke with West after he sang the national anthem for the first time, back in November of 2023. The Bills Mafia member and 2021 American Idol contestant submitted an audition tape and was selected. This time, the Bills reached out to him.
The Divisional Round game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. You can watch it on CBS.
