The DMV returns to pre-COVID hours

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — All four Monroe County DMV locations returned to their pre-COVID hours on Friday, April 1.

In a news release Wednesday, Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo announced that Monroe County has expanded its hours to improve
access to vital services.

This will include one ‘late-night’ at each branch, as well as weekend hours on the last Saturday of each month. Details can be found here.

“Even though we have been fully opened for months, it was imperative for our office to fully restore pre-COVID operating hours at all of our locations to ensure proper access to necessary DMV services for Monroe County residents. This day has been a long time coming, and we are thrilled to be expanding our hours in order to give greater access to the services we provide,” according to Romeo.

Romeo also announced plans for the redeployment of mobile DMVs throughout Monroe County to begin service again later this spring, after conducting an extensive audit of the mobile DMV system and ensuring necessary equipment and safety precautions were functional.

According to Romeo, mobile DMVs will be redeployed to different areas of the community once a week. The Clerk’s Office will also be seeking out new partnerships to make sure the mobile DMV unit can help bring these vital services to underserved communities throughout Monroe County.

The County Clerk’s Office also wants to remind residents that a small number of DMV transactions still require you to schedule an appointment. All permit testing, as well as Real ID transactions, will require an appointment for the foreseeable future. Appointments can be made here.
