ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Republican Congressional candidate La’Ron Singletary is laying out his plan to stop violence in the 25th District.
He held a news conference on Thursday along with local business leaders and NY State Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy.
The location, Ontario Beach Park, is not too far from the site of the city’s 53rd homicide just a few days ago.
Singletary, who is the former police chief of Rochester, believes the answer to solving the violence problem is more police patrolling the streets.
“There are two questions that as families or as we get older we ask ourselves,” Singletary said. “Where will I live and where will I raise a family? We can’t help make things better if we ignore some of the most pressing issues in our society. And the number one most pressing issue right now is violence in our community.”
Singletary’s opponent, Democrat Joe Morelle who currently represents the 25th District said: “I have never, and will never, support taking funds and resources away from law enforcement.”
Morelle said he remains committed to “advancing measures to strengthen funding for local police departments.”
