NY State launches website to prevent overdoses and educate people on naloxone

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — New York State launched a new overdose education website on Friday, called Project COPE, which stands for “community overdose prevention education”.
The website includes instructions on how to use naloxone to reverse an overdose, where to obtain naloxone, and how to access treatment for addiction. You can also find interactive training and education tools. The information is available in both English and Spanish.

The website is run by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Support. The launch of the website coincides with National Recovery Month.
In Monroe County, there were 55 overdoses in August. That’s a 57% increase from July according to the Heroin task force. Out of August’s overdoses, 12 of them were deadly. That’s a 140% increase from July. You can see statistics on overdoses on Monroe County’s website.
Overall in 2022, there have been 349 overdoses in Monroe County, 81 of which were fatal. Febuary had the highest number of overdoses.
