MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Canadian man has been arrested in Mount Morris for illegally possessing 58 pistols.

On Sunday, Mount Morris Police pulled over 36-year-old Badri Ahmed-Mohamed of Ottawa for a traffic stop. After a roadside interview, police say they suspected illegal activity and searched the vehicle.

Recovered during the search were 58 handguns along with multiple high-capacity magazines. Police say they were found in a duffel bag in the trunk.

"The officer was clearly stunned, and so was I when I received the phone call, having responded right to the scene, I was even more stunned when I put my eyes on what was there," said Mt. Morris Police Department Chief Jeff Wiedrick. "It’s not something you see every day, thank God, but we were fortunate to intervene and get those guns off the street."

Ahmed-Mohamed was charged with criminal possession of a weapon (1st) and is being held on $100,000 bail and $200,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
