First Alert Weather: Milder weather is on the way with showers increasing later in the week

ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — After what looked like winter at times this past weekend, we’ll warm things up a bit more this week.

A weakening area of low pressure will try to spread moisture into western New York tonight, but most of this wet weather won’t have enough "oomph" to make it in. We should see nothing more than a brief passing shower into early Tuesday morning. Some sunshine returns Tuesday afternoon, but overall clouds win out.

Meanwhile, a wave of rain moving up the close will try to clip us from the south Wednesday morning, but again, most of this should miss us. We’ll finally see rain chances going up by Wednesday evening and Thursday, as an upper-level low moves into the Great Lakes. This will spread showers into WNY by Wednesday night, with more of an area-wide rain Thursday morning. More widespread rain should taper to scattered showers by Thursday afternoon, but clouds will likely stick around. This upper-level low will weaken but meander overhead into the weekend.

This will keep us a bit unsettled with a passing rain (maybe wet snow) shower Saturday, tapering on Sunday. The more meaningful weather from this upper level low will come in the temperature department. Highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s through Thursday will drop back into the 40s Friday through Sunday. But this cooldown will be short-lived.

If you’ve been longing for the milder spring air, we’re looking at a pattern shift into next week. There continue to be growing signs of a more significant and prolonged warming trend next week. The timing of this may be just right, possibly bringing 60s and 70s back just in time for the Red Wings’ home opener! This milder air looks to last through much of next week, before another trough builds in over the Great Lakes, dropping our temperatures a bit toward the end of next week.
