NYSP: Woman who intentionally hit Trooper with U-Haul has been arrested for police chase before

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York State Police say the woman who intentionally hit a trooper with a U-Haul truck Friday morning is also accused of committing a string of larcenies, including one earlier Friday morning in Seneca County.

It started at around 8:15 a.m. on the New York State Thruway and on 490 at the Monroe-Ontario County line when the trooper attempted to stop the truck, but the driver made a U-turn and hit the trooper while he was standing outside his vehicle.

Troopers say the driver kept going into Monroe County, going the wrong way on 490, before turning around.

"The U-Haul then went the wrong way on 490 and police officers from both agencies attempted to warn traffic, and then it turned around at some point and exited up at the victor exit," said Trooper Mark O’Donnell.

The trooper is in Strong Memorial Hospital with a severe hand injury, according to State Police.

At around 10:30 a.m. a suspect vehicle was spotted on East Ridge Road in the parking lot of a pawn shop in Irondequoit.

"When the officer approached the vehicle the male that was in the vehicle, he vacated the vehicle and started walking through the parking lot," said Irondequoit Police Chief Alan Laird. "We were able to detain a few people."

Troopers say the driver was Theresa Gillette, 46. She was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

Troopers have confirmed to News10NBC that Gillette was arrested for another chase on the Thruway back in September of 2020. At the time of that arrest, troopers said she had a non-driver ID only which had 15 suspensions and had multiple warrants for her arrest out of Monroe County.

Gillette pleaded not guilty during her arraignment Friday night in Town of Perinton Court and troopers say she was also given an appearance ticket for petit larceny out of Seneca County.

Gillette is being held at the Monroe County Jail on bail of a minimum of $50,000 cash. She is due back in Town of Perinton Court on April 6.

The two others arrested were Shayla Glenn, 37 and Dennis Hightower, 56, both from Rochester. They were both charged with third degree grand larceny and are scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday morning in Seneca County CAP court.
