Do the Right Thing: De’Shawn and Ja’Lycia didn’t give in to peer pressure
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC is celebrating the latest winner of this semester’s “do the right thing” award. Meet De’Shawn Isidore and Ja’Lycia Jaimie Webb from The Flower City School, Rochester City School #54.
Their teachers nominated De’Shawn and Ja’Lycia for their positive role model behavior. Last fall during the school day, they found a bag of marijuana while playing on the school playground. Despite a peer trying to convince the girls to keep it, they immediately brought it in.
They could have kept the bag but instead, without hesitation, they made the right choice and avoided a potentially dangerous situation by turning it in to a trusted adult.
Any student enrolled in grades k-12 in any Monroe County school is eligible for nomination. The good deed the student is nominated for must have occurred in Monroe County within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form (this includes family, friends, school staff, coaches, etc.).
Nomination forms can be completed and submitted electronically or you can print the PDF form and email or fax the completed form. Forms are also available at any RPD building and any City school or City library.
