ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) – Another winterly afternoon is expected across the region before another brief stint with spring comes on Thursday.

Today will feature a few snow showers early this morning before sunshine makes an appearance this afternoon. Although there will be a bit of sunshine this afternoon, we will remain on the cold side.

Temperatures will only make their way into the low 30s this afternoon. With breezy conditions in place, it will feel colder. After today, temperatures will begin to slowly warm-up before they ramp up on Thursday. Temperatures will begin to warm up due to a warm front off towards our west.

A warm front will swing through Wednesday afternoon, but before that, we will see another round of wintry weather. Not a lot of moisture is expected to roll through, but a bit of rain and snow showers will be possible Wednesday afternoon.

Temperatures will remain near the freezing mark until this front swings through, and with that, we will watch the higher elevations for a brief period of icy conditions.

Icy conditions will be brief as temperatures make their way into the mid and upper 40s after the warm front lifts north. Temperatures will continue to warm up and make their way into the mid and upper 60s Thursday afternoon. However, with low pressure to our north, we will see a few isolated showers and gusty conditions.

A few showers or rumbles of thunder will be possible throughout the day on Thursday, but a washout is not expected. The bigger story on Thursday, besides the warmth, will be the windy conditions. A strong low-level jet will be overhead throughout the day, and we will see gusts towards the surface make their way near 40mph.

Mixing will be key as strong warm air advection in the upper levels will keep the strongest winds at bay early Thursday before we warm up and mix the atmosphere towards the afternoon. Strong gusts will not be long lives, but with gusts near 40mph, there will be a chance for an isolated power outage.

After the brief welcoming of spring, colder weather is expected as a cold front swings through late Thursday and brings us a chance for rain and snow showers once again Friday and Saturday.
