ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation held its annual Memorial Bike Ride on Sunday in memorial of those lost on 911.
The ride started at the Mendon Fire Department at 8:46 a.m., the same time the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Participants rode 22 miles in total. Each one was given an ID card with the face and name of a hero that died on that day.
“The nice thing about it is that they are remembering the firefighters, police officers, and EMTs that died that day. Then they come back here and ring the ceremony memorial bell and say out loud the person that they symbolically ride for that day. So it’s a great way to raise funds for the FDNY, counseling center, and the local line of duty deaths,” said Jack Gligora, Coordinator 911 Memorial Events.
